While the Danish Superliga winners has long been decided, the race for the final automatic European place is heating up. In my search for betting value I’m looking at two intriguing matches and providing my Superliga tips and analysis for them.
Superliga tips: SønderjyskE v Midtjylland
It’s been a tough month and a half for SønderjyskE. They entered the Championship round of the Superliga in fourth on the back of three straight wins. In the six games since they’ve picked up one solitary point away to Brondby, conceding 14 goals and scoring just five. Those results have pushed them down to sixth and bottom of the Championship round, and almost mathematically out of contention for an automatic place in the Europa League qualifying rounds next season.
FC Midtjylland on the other hand have fared better. They’ve won their last two games in a run of 10 points from their six Championship round games, pushing them into third spot, two points ahead of Lyngby. They’ve scored 15 goals in those six games too with seven coming in thumping wins over Nordsjaelland and Brondby.
Midtjylland can take a huge step closer to securing third place with a win over SønderjyskE. They beat them in the reverse fixture in this round 3-1 but they have yet to win away from home in the Championship round. SønderjyskE welcome back defender Kees Luijckx from suspension but are still short of options at the back.
The easy bet in this game would be over 2.5 goals, but the bookies are only offering a measly 1.61. I’m going to go with Midtjylland to continue the misery for SønderjyskE and they’re my Superliga tips to win at 1.84.
Superliga tips: Lyngby v Nordsjaelland
Lyngby’s victory over SønderjyskE last weekend kept them in fourth place ahead of their opponents in this game. It was only their second win in the Championship round and their first at home.
Nordsjaelland’s draw at home with champions FC Kobenhavn kept them in touch with the playoff places but they now have a fairly hefty five point gap to make up in four games if they are to snatch the automatic qualifying spot from Midtjylland. They will have to improve on their form which has seen them pick up eight points from 18 available so far.
This is a tough one to call. Lyngby are no great shakes at home and Nordsjaelland aren’t great away, but the feeling in Denmark is that maybe Nordsjaelland have enough quality to push for fourth place. I get the feeling this is a winnable game for them; they’ve beaten Lyngby at home and barring a 3-1 defeat away to Midtjylland they don’t look like they’ve been dominated too much by anyone.
