Shakhtar vs. Sevilla Preview 28.04 – Tips & Prediction
The last champions of the Uefa Cup and the latest champion of the renamed Europa League will cross the swords at Arena Lviv in the first leg of the semi-finals of the UEL. Sevilla is the most successful team in the competition; having won four titles from 2006 to 2015. Shakhtar won it once; it was the least edition known as Uefa Cup back in 2008, from the next season it changed the format and the name to Europa League. They met in 2007 when Sevilla defeated the Ukrainians in the 1/8 finals of the competition after a historic goal in injury time. Andres Palop, Sevilla’s goalkeeper at the time, scored the late equalizer and gave his team a precious extra time. Ernesto Chevanton scored a winner in dying moments of the first extra time and secured a win for Sevilla. The hosts will be looking for a sweet revenge on Thursday night.
Shakhtar – Sevilla game from 2007
Sevilla cannot qualify for the Champions League next season, and their only chance is to win this competition for the third time in a row. They are the most successful team that played in it, and the coach Unai Emery certainly has the recipe for winning it. However, the away form is a big problem for Sevilla, and they managed to win only three out of last 15 away matches. One of those wins came in the UEL at Bilbao in the previous round. In general, Sevilla’s form isn’t the best at the moment; they won only four in last ten matches, but the latest win came against the city rivals Betis, and it will give the team a significant morale boost for this clash in Lviv.
Mircea Lucescu will be without Brazilian midfielder Fred, who is suspended while defender Azevedo is out injured. Yaroslav Rakitskiy is back from suspension and is available. The rest of the team is ready and at disposal to the Romanian head coach.
Shakhtar’s possible starting lineup: Pyatov; Srna, Kucher, Rakitskiy, Ismaily; Malyshev, Stepanenko; Marlos, Kovalenko, Taison; Ferreyra
