The second half of this week’s Champions League fixtures takes place on Wednesday. Spanish giants Real Madrid host Napoli while German Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich travel to Arsenal. Real Madrid v Napoli Champions League Tips and Analysis
Zinedine Zidane’s side returned to the top of La Liga at the weekend with a 3-1 victory away to Osasuna. However, it took a string of saves from Keylor Navas to keep parity in the game until Isco and Lucas scored late on to win the game.
Napoli held onto third spot in Serie A beating Genoa 2-0 at the weekend, with Piotr Ziolenski and Emanuele Giaccherini on the scoresheet. Napoli are on a run of eighteen games unbeaten in all competitions since October of last year and not failed to score in a game since the 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League in November.
Madrid continue to be without Gareth Bale although Zinedine Zidane will be hopeful that the Welsh forward will return to action for the second leg. For Napoli, Jose Callejon may return to the lineup having been suspended for the Genoa game, forcing Arkadiusz Milik to remain on the bench for a while longer.
Bayern Munich v Arsenal Champions League Tips and Analysis
Bayern have extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga after beating near-neighbours Ingolstadt 2-0 at the weekend. That result leaves Carlo Ancelotti’s men seven points clear of RB Leipizg in the race for the title with the East German upstarts losing ground having been thumped 3-0.
Arsenal beat Hull City 2-0 at the weekend thanks to a brace from Alexis Sanchez but it took took an injury time penalty to confirm the result. Arsenal remain ten points behind Chelsea in fourth place with Arsene Wenger potentially looking at the Champions League along with the FA Cup as the only realistic avenues to silverware for the Gunners this season.
Xabi Alonso might not play in the game having limped out of a “secret” training session while Jerome Boateng and Franck Ribery are also nursing injuries. Nacho Monreal and Mohamed Elneny could come into the Arsenal side for the game.
