It’s another big weekend of Premier League football coming up with the choice match of the weekend being one at the wrong end of the table. If you followed our Premier League tips last week you’d have been a winner, with all three coming in at hefty odds. How have our experts done this week?
Champions Leicester City have had a shocker of a season and they know they will need to get something out of their trip to Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City if they are to stay out of relegation trouble. At the top end of the table, Liverpool host Spurs in what is going to be a tough test of Jurgen Klopp’s credentials with Liverpool having won just four of their last ten league games. Here’s our Premier League tips for this week.
Liverpool v Spurs tips and preview
The wheels have fallen off somewhat for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side of late. The last few weeks has seen them dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, out of the EFL cup by Southampton and beaten by struggling Hull City and Swansea City.
Liverpool have won just once in their last ten games in all competitions – a scrappy FA Cup replay win over fourth tier side Plymouth Argyle – and they haven’t kept a clean sheet against a top tier side in 2016. They face a Tottenham Hotspur side who haven’t won in the league at Anfield in 23 years and who haven’t beaten Liverpool at all since 2012. It promises to be an intriguing clash.
Liverpool may make changes at the back. Dejan Lovren is a doubt having suffered a knee injury but could return in place of Lucas Leiva in the centre of defence. If he doesn’t make it then Klopp could turn to youngster Joe Gomez. Spurs have problems in defence too with Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen still suffering from injury. Ben Davies and Eric Dier should continue to deputise.
Swansea City v Leicester City tips and preview
Reality has bit hard for Claudio Ranieri’s side this season. After their fairy-tale success of last year it’s been really tough and they find themselves in 16th place, level on points with their 17th placed opponents and only two above Sunderland who prop up the table.
Swansea City come into the game having taken Manchester City all the way to the wire in their 2-1 defeat and with manager Neil Clement having collected the manager of the month trophy for January. Talismanic forward Gylfi Sigurdsson has scored in their last three games consecutively while Fernando Llorente has looked much more threatening.
Leicester City on the other hand are without a win or a goal in the Premier League in 2017. They come into the game on the back of a tough extra-time win over Derby County in the FA Cup and while changes were made for that game the question will be who gets rotated back in for a crunch clash. Forward Demarai Gray ran the show against Derby and he could be rewarded with a rare Premier League start as the Foxes look for goals.
