The second half of my Premier League tips and analysis looks at two matches involving teams in the bottom half of the division. Hull City have improved markedly under Marco Silva and they face a Middlesbrough side who have slid into major trouble tonight, while Southampton could further entrench themselves in mid-table with a victory over Crystal Palace.
Premier League Tips: Hull City v Middlesbrough
I have been nothing but impressed with Marco Silva since he took over at Hull City. He took over a team in crisis on and off the pitch and has taken them to a point where survival looks possible. Hull City are unbeaten in six at the KCOM stadium, having won four – and a win tonight could very much pull them out of the bottom three.
Boro on the other hand have been shocking. Winless in 12, one goal in their last six… it’s easy to understand why Aitor Karanka was binned off. Last weekend they had a real opportunity to make up some ground but could only manage a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Swansea City in South Wales. If they are to stay up they must do better here.
I don’t think it’ll be pretty, but I think Hull will have enough to see off their north east rivals. Hull have only failed to score once at home in their last 10 and I can’t see Boro holding out against them with so much at stake. My Premier League tips for this one are Hull City to win at 2.01.

Premier League Tips: Southampton v Crystal Palace
You’ve got to admire Sam Allardyce. If there was one team that I never would have believed would have won away at Chelsea, it was Crystal Palace – but the Eagles did it. That result was their fourth win on the spin as the South London side have pulled away from the relegation zone. Sam Allardyce might like pints of wine but he’s a banker to organise and improve club sides – his record speaks for itself.
Southampton have been disappointing of late – a bore draw against Bournemouth adding to their record of winning just twice in 10 games. It’s just one win in five at St Mary’s too – and one would wander if their cup and European exertions are taking their toll on the team.
The normal cause of action here would be to assume Palace would continue their fine form but I think this is where the rot will stop for Southampton. Manolo Gabbiadini could come back into the team which I think will be a real threat up top for the Saints. I’m going to stick my neck on the line and give my Premier League tips as Southampton to beat Palace at 1.78.
