It’s the battle of the Albions this weekend in the Premier League when Chris Hughton’s Brighton and Hove Albion travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion. Read on for all the latest team news, statistics and Premier League picks to help you find your football tips for this match.
Premier League Picks: West Bromwich Albion Team News
It’s not been an easy task so far for Alan Pardew. The Baggies lie in 19th place in the Premier League having failed to win a league game since August – a streak of 17 games. WBA’s measly two wins in the league this year is the worst record in any of the four divisions of English football by some margin, and fans are already contemplating the ignominy of switching places with hated rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of the season.
Chief among their problems has been a lack of goalscoring talent. Only Swansea (13) have a worse goals for record in the Premier League than the Baggies (16) and only three players have registered more than a single PL goal this season; Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon leading the way with three apiece.
Pardew is trying to change this but the transfer window is already proving problematic. Despite being linked with Diafra Sakho, Troy Deeney and Oumar Niasse interest appears to be nothing more than rumours at present. With the Baggies having only scored 4 goals in their last seven Premier League outings there is no surprise that under 2.5 goals is trading as low as 1.36 – clearly no value Premier League picks there.
Premier League Picks: Brighton and Hove Albion Team News
One player who definitely won’t be playing in this game is Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown, who left last week’s FA Cup clash against Crystal Palace with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He returned to Chelsea to receive treatment, meaning the only player currently in the treatment room for Brighton is Steve Sidwell.
While Brighton’s form has been patchy of late with just one win in ten Premier League games, Chris Hughton’s men have only lost once in the last five. However, Brighton have only taken one point from the last 15 on their travels and haven’t scored away from the Amex Stadium in the Premier League since Glenn Murray’s winner away to Swansea back in November.
Like West Brom, Brighton just don’t score goals having scored 17 in their 22 games. However, unlike WBA, Brighton have managed to convert some of those tight games into wins – especially at home – ensuring they sit in mid-table although they are only three points clear of the drop zone.
Premier League Picks: Early Football Tips
Unsurprisingly as one of the lesser games in this week’s list of fixtures this game has not been looked at as much by the tipsters on ProTipster. Of the 30 active tips at the time of writing, 11 tipsters had backed West Bromwich Albion to win with average odds being at around 2.06. The goals market clearly is not of interest to tipsters with only a couple daring to chance their arm – and even then going for over 1.5 goals at a measly 1.5. Will this weekend be another one of misery for Baggies fans? Or will Brighton once again succumb to their awayday malaise?
