Derby County Vs Bristol City
Hello and welcome back to The ProTipster Football Podcast, we’re back with another of our Combined XI podcasts. This week we’re looking at Derby County Vs Bristol City in the Championship. Joining me is the ever-knowledgeable ProTipster Martin.
As you’ll know from listening to our podcasts we’ve all big fans of the Championship so we decided to take a break from the Premier League and have a look at this fascinating match up between two teams who are battling for Premier League promotion.
Of course Bristol City are the current darlings of the football hipsters thanks to their recent run of great results which culminated with them taking the scalp of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in their Carabao Cup run only for city rivals Manchester City to knock them out in the following round.
Derby though have quietly gone about their business without much fuss, they didn’t start the season so well but they’ve climbed their way up to second in the table thanks mostly to their solid defence and their Czech maestro up front, Matej Vydra.
The wheels have come off the Bristol City bus a bit of late, they’ve lost all of their last five games so should they lose here it could all hasten the death knell of their promotion aspirations. We certainly hope not though. Every proper football fan loves seeing a manager put his trust in youth and when they play such attacking football as Bristol City have been then we can only praise them…unless you’re a Bristol Rovers fan of course, but that lot are never happy.
The rules are simple, we cannot pick and injured or suspended players and this week we’ve gone with the tried and trusted 4-4-2 formation.
Picking our cat between the sticks was probably the easiest choice since Noah asked animal if they wanted to drown horribly of get on his boat. You can probably guess who we picked. He’s got more Champions League winners medals than Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon. Fact.
Defence we have a few disagreements here. You’ll all know I’m a proud Irish man and by God I wanted Derby County’s Richard Keogh in there, but he just doesn’t score enough goals and these days you need players who can smash in the odd header from a corner. We did mix it up though, we’ve gone for a mix of experience, and youth and speed. Game of Thrones’ Hodor gets a nod too.

In midfield we both picked very differing selections but we did find some common ground in the end.
Attacking-wise it was pretty easy, while Bristol City are suffering with some injuries up front at the minute their replacement has stepped up valiantly and sure we’d be nuts not to include the Championship’s top scored, Czech international Matej Vydra.
We take a very quick look at the odds for the match on Friday night. Over 2.5 goals is currently a tempting 2.10 at the time of writing and with the last 6 games between The Rams and The Robins producing 25 goals it’s certainly giving us food for thought
