While the football season is winding to a close in the majority of European leagues, it’s heating up in America. Major League Soccer has become big business, and there is good value to be found for football tipsters. With this in mind I’ve put together my MLS tips and analysis for Wednesday’s most intriguing fixtures.
MLS Tips: Sporting Kansas City v Seattle Sounders
2017 has been a season of widely differing fortunes for these teams. Separated by a point in the standings, they met in the first round of the playoffs and Seattle won 1-0 as they went on to win the trophy. This year however, Sporting Kansas City are 13 places better off in the overall table with the Sounders only managing a measly 10 points from 10 games.
SKC might have mixed overall form (7 points from 15 overall) but they’re bang in form at home, having won their last four games at Children’s Mercy Park. They’ve scored 10 goals in those four games and have conceded just twice.
Contrast that with the Sounders, who come into the game on the back of a 4-1 mauling at the hands of Chicago Fire. They’ve won just once in their last five games – 3-0 away to LA Galaxy – which is the only time they’ve won away this season and one of only two clean sheets they’ve kept.
MLS Tips: Real Salt Lake v New York City
This is another matchup of teams with contrasting fortunes. Real Salt Lake are in trouble, lying 10th in their conference after four defeats on the spin and with only one home win in five games this season. They face a New York City side who have stepped up things in recent weeks, picking up 10 points from 15.
I think the worst thing for RSL is that recent matches haven’t even been close, with the side shipping 13 goals in four games including three each to Atlanta United and FC Dallas at home. In that time they’ve scored once.
New York City have had some mixed form but they are picking up wins as they look to climb the Eastern conference table. They’ve had good away wins against Philadelphia Union and Columbus Crew in recent weeks with their last fixture a creditable 1-1 away draw to FC Dallas.
The big question is how brave one is. New York City or draw is 1.46 in the double chance market, but I’m always after a bigger bet. As such, my MLS tips for this game are New York City to win at a fairly hefty 2.77.
