Huddersfield Vs West Ham United
Will the Terriers bite back?
It’s a six pointer at the John Smith’s stadium on Saturday as 11th placed Huddersfield Town host 15th West Ham United. ProTipster Martin brings you all the latest team news and statistics to help you find your football tips for this match.
As far as the Terriers are concerned, the early team news is that Collin Quaner looks set to miss out with a hamstring injury, while defender Chris Lowe has a foot injury and could also be missing. Elias Kachunga and Jon Gorenc Stankovic are long-term absentees, with the former not due back until at least March. New signing Terence Kongolo may feature, but the game could come too soon for midfielder Alex Pritchard who looks set to sign for Huddersfield from Norwich City although, at the time of writing this, he hasn’t put pen to paper just yet. After a great start to life in the Premier League David Wagner’s side are under no illusions how tough it is to pick up victories having won just twice in their last thirteen outings. In fact, the Terriers are winless in their last four Premier League games, with defeat at Leicester last time out following a run of three successive draws.
West Ham should welcome back Marko Arnautovic to the starting line-up after the Austrian missed the recent draws with Spurs and Shrewsbury due to a tight hamstring. Michail Antonio’s troublesome calf looks set to keep him out for at least another week, whereas David Moyes is sweating on the fitness of Winston Reid after he came off early in their FA Cup tie last Sunday. Diafra Sakho is rumoured to be attracting interest from Crystal Palace this month, and with the Senegalese striker carrying a knock, he’s not expected to feature. The Hammers have picked up of late having grabbed a credible draw at Wembley and a crucial home win against West Brom in recent weeks, but a loss on Saturday could see them slip back into the relegation zone if results go against them. It will be the fourth time they’ve lost to at least three different promoted sides in the same Premier League season (2001-02, 2006-07 and 2009-10) if they do suffer defeat here. As it stands, only Middlesbrough (5) and Sunderland (4) have done this on that many occasions.
Huddersfield Vs West Ham United
Huddersfield have won 10 of their last 12 home league games against West Ham (W10 D1 L1), though this is their first meeting 1971. David Moyes’ men won the reverse fixture 2-0 back in September, but it’s worth noting that they’ve never won both league games against Huddersfield in any of the previous 15 seasons they’ve met. There are currently 33 tips on ProTipster for this game, with the most popular pick being a Huddersfield win, although I expect plenty more to be posted before kick-off. Only Turf Moor (16) has seen fewer goals scored than the John Smith’s Stadium among Premier League grounds this season (22, 10 for Huddersfield, 12 against), so could the Unders selection in the Over/Under markets be the selection of choice for this fixture? A draw wouldn’t be a disaster for either side, but a win would do wonders for their survival hopes. This fixture is difficult to predict on paper as the odds clearly show, but will we see a bore draw or a goal fest in Yorkshire this weekend?
