League football returns this weekend after the international break with a host of big games across Europe. Tipsters and pundits alike will be looking to see which players have come back from duty with their countries with injury before making the most of their free bets.
Many top flight managers will be happy that players haven’t picked up knocks and that they are ready to play in the weeks ahead. Not everyone has been lucky though. Real Madrid, AC Milan and Arsenal in particular go into this weekend’s games with injury problems.
Arsenal Betting News
Arsene Wenger has a brace of injuries to contend with ahead of this weekend’s big clash with Manchester United – both to key players in his team.
Hector Bellerin is definitely out of the game. He picked up an ankle injury in a tackle with Danny Rose of Tottenham Hotspur before the break, and despite linking up with the Spanish under 21 team he will be out for up to four weeks. Bellerin has been a major part of Arsenal’s success this season, giving a quick outlet down the right and allowing Wenger to play his favoured quick attacking style play.
Alexis Sanchez on the other hand should start on Saturday despite training with heavy strapping on a thigh injury. The Chilean star missed their goalless draw with Colombia last week but returned on Tuesday to score twice in Chile’s 3-1 win over Uruguay. He has declared himself fit for the Manchester United game – however Wenger has said he will make his final decision on Friday.
Real Madrid Betting News
Real Madrid have had a crippling injury list in recent times and their problems have only been exacerbated ahead of the Madrid derby by the knock suffered by Alvaro Morata in Spain’s 2-2 friendly draw with England. Morata joins an injury list which includes Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Pepe and Mateo Kovacic.
With Karim Benzema potentially out Zinedine Zidane has no other out-and-out striker to spearhead his attack and he will have to decide whether to play raw Dominican Republic striker Mariano or to switch his formation to just two up front. There is a possibility that Benzema could return to the team having missed the match with Leganes due to an unspecified injury but at the moment it doesn’t look likely.
It’s not all bad news however as Sergio Ramos has returned to full training and the centre-back could be in line to return to the Merengues lineup at the weekend.
AC Milan Betting News
Vincenzo Montella faces a defensive selection headache ahead of this weekend’s derby with Internazionale following news that Alessio Romagnoli has picked up an injury in Italy’s friendly with Germany on Tuesday. The 21-year-old centre-back is not believed to have picked up a serious injury but it will be enough to keep him out for a couple of weeks.
The only direct replacement for Romagnoli available for Saturday would seem to be Paraguayan international Gustavo Gomez. Gomez has only played seven times for the Rossonieri and had the misfortune to score an own goal while playing for Paraguay against Bolivia in midweek. Colombian defender Cristian Zapata is another option but he has not played for Milan this season having had ankle surgery in July and it would be a big call to bring him back into the team for such a high profile game.
