Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge on Monday night with his Manchester United side looking for a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. I’ve put together these FA Cup tips, predictions and analysis to help you with your betting choices in what will be an interesting game.
Chelsea FA Cup tips and analysis
This is a bit of a free hit for Antonio Conte as games go. With no European campaign this season his Chelsea side have no fixture congestion and their massive lead at the top of the Premier League means that they have a bit of breathing room even in Premier League games.
The question as always will be if Conte switches things around a little bit in the squad. I think if this game had been against anyone else other than Manchester United there would be have been changes – maybe a start for Michy Batshuayi or for someone else on the fringes but I think Conte knows he cannot do that in this game. With this in mind I think my FA Cup tips for Chelsea will be that Conte will start his strongest XI including Diego Costa up front.
Manchester United FA Cup tips and analysis
This was the match I think that Jose Mourinho did not want to play. His team are still competing on three fronts having lifted the EFL Cup and it will be their 46th match this season – an astonishing figure. Mourinho knows he’s got a tough Europa League 2nd leg against Rostov to come and with this game being decided on the night the last thing he will want is extra time and penalties.
He’s not helped by the injuries that Manchester United are currently suffering. Wayne Rooney picked up a knock colliding with Phil Jones in training; Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are both ill while Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended after his ruckus with Tyrone Mings in the match against Bournemouth. This leaves Mourinho without a recognised striker to play. I think we will see Marouane Fellaini or Jesse Lingard up front – neither of which will appeal to Red Devils fans. My FA Cup tips here are for fewer goals from Manchester United than would be normally expected.
My FA Cup tips and analysis
I think this will be a tough game, even with Manchester United short of strikers, and I suspect it will go into extra time despite Jose Mourinho really not wanting that. I’m backing the draw on 90 minutes at 3.49 – if you want a safer bet then under 2.5 goals at 1.57 might be worthwhile.
