Last week’s Euroleague matches saw us hit an amazing 5/5 result with the bookies and I am honestly hoping to continue with this great form with Euroleague tips this week. Just like last week, I’m going to be watching five matches on Thursday and three matches on Friday evening. As always, I am going to look into those I think are the most interesting.
First of all let us recap last week’s results. Zalgiris and Fener played a tight game and the Turkish side managed to beat their opponents in the end thanks to a great third quarter. The match ended with a 9 point win for the Turks and the Euroleague tips I gave on the visitors to win was a success.
The next tip came in even easier as Crvena Zvezda dominated the pitch of the Belgrade Arena right from the start. The Red and Whites managed to take a huge lead in the first quarter and kept it all the way to the end. Our tip was a 5 point win at 1.90, which made us 2/2 on Thursday.
This Thursday brings us two very interesting and important matches which may well decide the situation in the top eight and I will be focusing on them. Keep reading and find the Euroleague tips I have prepared for these matches.
Euroleague tips and analysis: Fenerbahce vs Baskonia
This game will be a rematch of last season’s semifinals when Baskonia (who used to go under the name of Laboral Kutxa) won 88:77. Fener will have a chance to take revenge for this painful defeat this Thursday when they are hosting the Basque side in Istanbul. A win would nearly secure a spot in the top eight for the Turkish side and more importantly, it would complicate things for the Spanish side as they are currently at the very edge of the playoffs area.
Baskonia has historically done much better in clashes against Fenerbache. The Spanish side has won 12 out of the 18 matches played, including the one earlier in this season when they absolutely destroyed the Turks 86:52. Still, it is hard to expect something like this to happen on Thursday as Fener has significantly improved since then and Zeljko Obradovic’s boys have won 6 out of their last 7 matches.
Last week, Baskonia’s streak of three consecutive wins was stopped by Milan, who won 87:74 at home. This gives Baskonia only one win more than Darussafaka Dogus in ninth. It is worth mentioning that the Spanish side will be looking for their opportunities under the hoops as it is very likely that Fener’s main centre, Ekpe Udoh, will not be playing due to a shoulder injury. Jan Vesey has been less than brilliant lately (also having issues with injuries) along with Luigi Datome. Kostas Sloukas has been absent from the squad for some time now. This means that Bobby Dixon will be playing a major role for Obradovic in the match against the Basks and the team will be looking to him for points.
Toko Shengelia is back for Baskonia after recovering from an injury. The main problem for Sito Alonso will be injuries of Andrea Barganini and Adam Henga who may easily not play in this game.
Overall speaking, the bookies are offering a bad price on Fenerbache to win and there is no value in betting at just 1.30. The match is much more important for the visitors and they surely have what it takes to defeat Fenerbache (as shown earlier this season). I believe that the best Euroleague tips I can give for this one is Baskonia not to lose by 8 points or more (Baskonia +8.5 handicap) at 1.57.
Euroleague tips and analysis: Zalgiris Kaunas vs Panathinaikos
Zalgiris could not take the strong tempo of the match against Fenerbache last week when they lost at home by 9 points. This week they are hosting Panathinaikos who are far from their best form. Still, the Greeks cannot be ruled out at any time. They are still playing very good basketball and are likely to play the next phase of the competition, currently sitting on 14 wins and 10 losses.
The hosts really need a win in this one and this game may very well decide their fate for the entire season. Zalgiris definitely have a team that can do great things, but they have lacked the much needed consistency. Paulius Jankunas was brilliant against Fener last week as he led his side against the Turks. While this was not sufficient that time, the hosts may very well make something happen if he can repeat the same kind of performance.
Pao has won most of the matches at home this season. Last week they were defeated by Darussafaka Dogus away by five points. Head coach Xavi Pascual will be missing James Gist and will be looking to Mike James to put in a good performance (13.5 points per match this season).
With the help of the packed stands and the less than impressive form of the Greeks, I can see plenty of value in the home win bet at almost even money (including extra time). This is why my Euroleague tips are backing Zalgiris to win at 1.98.
