This week is an absolutely hectic one for the best European basketball teams as it brings us not one but two rounds of Euroleague. Of course, this means an opportunity for me to bring you even more great Euroleague Tips to improve your betting profits!
Some matches of round 27 have already been completed, with Maccabi defeating Fenerbache in Istanbul by two points and Baskonia delivering and impressive performance in Bamberg, demolishing Brose 96:71. Efes made a great step forward by defeating Zalgiris in Kaunas, while Panathinaikos, as expected, had little problem with the out of form Emporio Milan, defeating them by 12 on home soil.
Round 28 will not be easy to predict with round 27 not yet being fully completed, but the schedule is such as it is. There are quite a few teams battling for the top eight positions and these final three rounds are bound to bring some thrillers.
Today I’m focusing my Euroleague tips and analysis on Thursday night’s matches of round 28. The most interesting match should be the one in Istanbul where the two local teams will be battling it out in a local derby, while Baskonia will be hosting Panathinaikos after their stellar performance in Germany. These are the two matches that we will analyse in full.
In other matches, Zalgiris will be presented with a great opportunity at a comeback after losing to Efes by potentially defeating Maccabi. I can see quite a bit of value in away win bet at 2.60 as the Lithuanian team has been better throughout the season and are still in with playoff chances.
Milano and Bamberg will be playing a meaningless duel as they are both at the very bottom of the table. We will give the Italians a slight advantage as Brose has been playing awful during their last few games while Milano are playing in front of the home crowd.
But for now, let’s get straight into my Euroleague tips and analysis of the two more interesting duels:
Anadolu Efes vs Fenerbahce
Anadolu Efes made a huge leap towards the final eight by defeating their direct rivals Zalgiris on Tuesday night. Velimir Perasovic’s boys will have a chance to improve their eight position score should they be able to defeat their bitter rivals Fenerbache on Thursday evening at the Abdi Ikpeci. Perasovic knows that it will be extremely difficult, especially if we consider that Efes has never won against Fener in a Euroleague match.
“The visitors” have won seven consecutive Euroleague encounters with Efes, including the one in November last year when their impressive attacking form resulted in 88 points being scored. Kostas Sloukas with 21 and Jan Vesely with 20 led the team that time, while Jayson Granger with 19 points was the light in Efes’ darkness.
I think that this may be the best chance for Efes to finally get the two points as they will be in somewhat better mood before this match, especially if I consider that Fenerbache have just dropped a great opportunity against Maccabi on Tuesday. The two teams are generally quite even and we expect a very interesting duel, but Efes is the team who need the win much more in playoff struggle, which is why I will tip them to win by 4.5 or more at 2.18.
Baskonia vs Panathinaikos
This will certainly be one not to miss as both teams are entering the match on fantastic form, especially the hosts. It seems that Baskonia has finally entered their best attacking rhythm by stringing together four consecutive wins, the most impressive one coming just yesterday against Brose in Bamberg where they scored 96.
The hosts feature fantastic attacking potential. Shane Larkin was brilliant against Bamberg with 17 points and 6 assists, while Toko Shengalia managed a double double with 16 points and 12 jumps. Chase Budinger played his best match in Baskonia jersey by adding another 17 points and 5 jumps. The impressive form has led Sito Alonso’s squad to the very edge of the playoffs and their ticket to Istanbul could be booked even before this match if CSKA can defeat Darussaffaka on Wednesday night, which is very likely.
Xavi Pascual can also be more than happy with the current form of his players as they have managed to string together wins against Real Madrid and Milan in the last two games. Still, biggest concern for ex Barcelona boss is the siginificant drop in form of his players away from Athens as they have managed a horrible 1-6 score in their last seven visiting matches (the only win coming against Galatasaray in February).
The Greek team is in a similar situation as Baskonia, where CSKA defeating Darussaffaka would ensure their spot in the quarters. Their win against Milan was their ninth consecutive home win as Pao’s team worked together with Nick Calathes, Mike James, K.C. Rivers and Nikos Pappas distributing the points fairly evenly.
Even though this is a derby match with two teams with similar results, Baskonia will be entering the match as favorites according to the bookies. This makes sense as Baskonia have been running hot and Pao’s away record has been awful, but I’m in the business of finding value and I believe that Panathinaikos will not lose this one by more than 5.5 points, and at 1.78, this is where my money will be.
