With just two rounds left until the end of the regular Euroleague season, most participants are already known and only one spot in the final eight remains unfilled. Either Crvena Zvezda or Darussafaka will be taking this spot, with the Serbian side holding the upper hand and the match between the two sides in Istanbul may well prove to be decisive. These are my Euroleague tips for the first part of this week.
Still, before any of this can happen, the two sides both need to win their Round 29 matches in which both will be heavy favourites. The Turkish side will be playing Bamberg on Thursday while the Belgrade outfit will be meeting Unics at home on Friday.
As you have learned to expect, I will be posting our tips for two matches of each day. Three games are on schedule for Thursday and we will be leaving out the Barcelona match against Maccabi Tel Aviv which has absolutely no significance for either side and could easily go either way. Things will be a lot more interesting in the other two matches where Anadolu Efes and Olympiacos will be fighting it out for the home gym advantage in the playoffs while Darussafaka will be hosted by the already eliminated Bamberg in desperate need of points.
Euroleague Tips and analysis: Anadolu Efes vs Olympiacos Piraeus
Efes has been playing on top form and has already secured a place in the quarters thanks to an impressive series of seven wins in the last eight matches. This includes the first ever win against their city rivals Fenerbache last week when Velimir Perasovic’s squad absolutely dominated the game throughout.
Efes still has chances to make the fourth position which gives the home field advantage in the quarters and this will certainly give them more reasons to play for the win than the visitors who will likely finish the regular part of the season in third place.
Olympiacos played their last match without their best player Georgios Printezis who missed out on several trainings and the match due to illness, which will surely not be great for them ahead of the Turkish showdown. Olympiacos demolished Efes earlier in the season 90:66 but this was the worst match in an attacking sense for an otherwise powerful team and we expect a much better showing from them this time around.
The hosts are playing on better form, need this win more and will be playing in front of their loyal fans, which certainly gives me enough reason to predict a home win, currently priced at 1.55 with the bookies.
Euroleague Tips and analysis: Brose Bamberg vs Darussafaka Dogus
Darussafaka will be facing a difficult task of ending their seven consecutive away losses streak which has been uninterrupted since December last year. The Turkish outfit will be looking for wins against Bamberg and Zvezda in their two final matches should they have any chance of boarding the last train to quarterfinals. A loss in Bamberg and an expected Zvezda win this Friday in Belgrade would end their hopes of making the playoffs.
Darussafaka will be facing a difficult task if we consider the fact that the hosts have been very impressive last week in their demolishing of the Italian Milan side in Milan. This was their second consecutive win and they will surely give it their best to say goodbye to this year’s competition in style.
Will Clyburn was the best for Darussafaka in their 72:70 win earlier in the season. Bamberg’s best player Nicolo Melli managed a double-double in that one and will surely be the best hope for the Germans along with Daniel Theis and Darius Miller.
The main advantage and the thing that I believe will give the Turks a win is their dominant jump play, especially if we consider that they average twice as many attacking jumps as Bamberg. The points of second tier players will likely be the determining factor for the Turkish side.
