The brutal tempo that we have been seeing in this season of the Euroleague (the first one in the new format) will be continued with the 22nd round matches, set for Thursday the 8th and Friday the 9th of February. While this round will not be bringing any exceptional matches, it will surely be interesting to see whether Real Madrid can cruise past Kazan unscratched and continue their impressive form that has seen them take over the top spot on the leader board and whether the heavy defeat they suffered on home turf will ruin the good run for Crvena Zvezda.
The Belgrade team will be visiting Moscow’s CSKA, where they will be starting without their best playmaker Stefan Jovic who is isffering from an injury. Keep reading and find out our Euroleague betting tips for what we believe to be the three most interesting matches of the round.
CSKA Moscow vs Crvena Zvezda Belgrade tips and analysis
Looking at the current standings and the form that both teams have shown early in 2017, this is without a doubt the derby of this round. However, the reality is that the hosts will be entering the match as great favorites. It would seem that last season’s ABA League champions are losing their edge a bit as their series of seven consecutive wins in the European competition has ended last week when Efes crushed them in Belgrade 72:86. There is now even more reason for alert as this defeat was followed up by an even more painful defeat against city rivals Partizan on Sunday evening, which was their first domestic defeat of the season.
All of this means that Zvezda will be heavily tested at the worst of times. CSKA will be additionally motivated following the defeat they suffered in Belgrade back in round 15 when Zvezda started their impressive series. Ognjen Kuzmic was the star man of Zvezda in that match with 16 points and 10 jumps while Andrey Vorontshevich played one of the best matches of the season for CSKA scoring 21 points in total.
Milos Teodosic is rejoining his teammates in CSKA and along with Nando De Colo will be the driving force of the Russian attack. Zvezda won the first matchup of the season thanks to their incredible defenses, which is generally their strongest attribute and the impressive atmosphere in the home gym. This week however, every single factor is in favor of CSKA as the visitors are coming in without the injured Jovic, the atmosphere in the Belgrade team will surely be further damaged after the defeat to Partizan and we believe they may very well suffer a brutal defeat at the Megasport Arena on Thusday night.
CSKA is more than capable of winning with more than 16 points so we advise you check out the -16.5 handicap offered with the bookies at a very fair price as our first Euroleague betting tip of the week.
Darussafaka Dogus vs Fenerbahce tips and analysis
Fenerbache seem more than ready to retaliate for the defeat they suffered against their city rivals earlier this season. Darussafaka defeated Fener with 64:71 in the Asian side of Istanbul in the 13th round in what was a true upset. Scottie Wilbekin was brilliant in that match and along with Will Clyburn scored 42 points. The experienced Israeli coach David Blatt will be entering this rematch without Wilbekin who has been struggling with injuries for quite a while. This is likely the main reason that Darussafaka have suffered three consecutive defeats which currently put them outside of the top 8 and the playoffs. Brad Wanamakaer and Will Clyburn will be expected to lead their team in this difficult derby.
Fenerbache on the other side have been on amazing form as of late and will be entering this match after four consecutive wins. The star studded team will have a huge advantage inside the racket in this match. Ekpe Udoh and Jan Vesely may very well prove to be too much for the likes of Andrija Zizic to handle. The outside line with Datome, Dixon, Sloukas and Bogdanovic is also likely to play well and we see little way for Darussafaka to avoid a defeat in this one.
The guests are playing on much better form and the hosts are playing without their best player. If you are looking for good Euroleague betting tips, a Fenerbache win at 1.60 (money line) is a great value bet in our opinion.
Barcelona vs Galatasaray
Barcelona are entering the match against the worst team in the league this season with an imperative on a victory. The Catalonian side has lost three consecutive matches which has put them to 12th, making it very difficult for them to even contemplate the playoffs. Efes in eighth is currently just 2 wins away, but a defeat against Galatasaray would all but crush the dream for Navarro and the guys in Barcelona locker-room.
When the two teams met earlier in the season, Galatasaray celebrated a convincing home victory with 78:64. Sinan Guler and Blake Schilb were the stars of that match scoring a combined 36 points. The duo has remained Galatasaray’s leading scoring duo for the rest of the season. Alex Tyul and Tibor Pleiss have greatly improved their inside play while Micov and Diebler are always capable of putting pressure on the opposition with outside points.
Barcelona have been desperate for a win as of late and have been struggling with finding proper form all season. Their only real attacking option at the moment is the playmaker Tyrese Rice who has been scoring 14.6 points per match. Luckily for the Catalonian team, Galatasaray have been playing the worst defense in the league the entire season, especially in away matches, which may we may yet see Barcelona at their best.
Barcelona will be in need of a convincing win in order to reach the confidence levels they will surely need if they are to make the playoffs. Our third and final Euroleague betting tip for this week is the -9.5 handicap on Barcelona at 1.85.
