Friday night brings us only three Euroleague matches, but each of them brings us a special piece of drama. The reality is that none of the matches have a true favourite; something which can also be seen by looking at the odds that the bookies are offering. I’ve decided to provide you with a short analysis of each match along with Euroleague tips as it was impossible to pick my favourite game.
Unics Kazan vs Anadolu Efes Euroleague tips and analysis
Unics has lost practically all hopes of making the playoffs with a series of six consecutive losses. The Russians are easily one of the greatest disappointments of the tournament as they have a very potent squad which, led by American players, is easily one of the physically strongest in the league.
Evgeny Pashutin’s team includes the best Euroleague scorer, Keith Langford, who has been scoring an average of 22 points per game this season. The biggest problem for the Russian expert is the fact that he lacks attacking options aside from Langford. Playmaker Quino Colom and center Art Parakhouski are among the best in the squad with just over 11 points per game.
Efes does not lack behind Unics athletically as Velimir Perasovic’s boys also have their own strongmen in Derrick Brown, Bryan Dunston and Brancon Paul. Efes is playing on great rhythm and will be entering the match full of confidence after a great triumph over Baskonia last week.
The Turkish squad celebrated a victory in the first match of the two teams in Istanbul, winning 104:99 and we believe them to be favourites in this one as well as their good form has seen them win their last three games.
Darussafaka Dogus vs Panathinaikos Athens Euroleague tips and analysis
Darussafaka still hasn’t booked a single win against Panathinaikos ahead of their fourth match in four years. Pao won earlier this season with 86:80 in Athens thanks to a great performance by Ioannis Bourouis who scored 18 points and won 13 fouls.
The Turkish team needs a win in this one as they are currently placed ninth. The Greeks would make a big step towards securing a place in the top eight as they are currently in fifth with 14 wins in 23 matches. The key to success will be in maintaining concentration in the match as both teams are in the lead by the number of lost balls in the competition.
Mike James, K.C. Rivers and Chris Singleton will be leading Pao’s attack, while Bran Wanamaker will be David Blatt’s first option. James Gist will be missing the match for the Greek side and Marcus Slaughter will also not be available to Blatt as he has missed the last 14 Euroleague matches.
It is difficult to say which team is closer to a triumph. Darussafaka has been playing on mixed form since the start of the season and they are able to win any match, but also lose to any of the teams in the competition. Still, I believe that the flare of the home crowd can lead them to their first ever victory against the Greek side as the momentum should be completely on their side. The important piece of Turks’ attack, Scottie Wilbekin will be on the pitch, they won against Fener last Friday and they should use the home advantage against Panathinaikos.
Barcelona vs CSKA Moscow Euroleague tips and analysis
Barcelona have finally managed a win in Euroleague and have ended the bad streak of four consecutive losses by defeating Milan 78:83 last week. Still, in order to reach the playoffs they are going to need a strong series in the final seven rounds and Georgio Bartzokas will surely not have too much reason to be optimistic ahead of the match against one of Europe’s strongest sides.
The two European giants are currently playing quite different games. CSKA is the strongest attacking side of the league and are holding the best results from the three point area in the league. Blaugrana on the other hand has been limited in attack and focusing on strong defending which could potentially give them a chance against the very strong CSKA side, which would keep them in the top 8 race.
Bartzokas will be having great problems with his roster ahead of the match against the Russians. Juan Carlos Vanarro, Justin Doellman, Shane Lawall and Pau Ribas will all be missing the match. Itoudis, on the other hand, does not have such problems and can count on all his players, so I believe it would take a proper miracle for Barca do to something significant in this match.
My Euroleague tips for this one is a CSKA win at 1.38 and I advise placing substantial amounts on this one; while those who are looking for a better price can like me bet on CSKA win with over 4 points at 1.61.
