This week the Euroleague continues with the 24th round matches on schedule. Both the playoff and the pole position race are now in full swing and just like last week, we will be bringing you the Euroleague tips and previews for the most interesting matches of Thursday and Friday schedules.
Last week I got only two of my four Euroleague tips right and I’ll be looking to do better this week. Unfortunately, CSKA failed to produce their best in Moscow winning with only 12 points, while my tip was that they would win by at least 16 points. The other match came in as Fenerbache and Olympiacos played a very tight match with few points, meaning my under 146.5 points was a hit. In fact, the match only had 131 points in total, meaning our bet was very safe the whole match.
Friday also gave me mediocre success. I picked right in the Efes v Baskonia match, where despite the bookies thinking the match may end with under 165.5 points, the final score was 96:85, for an incredible 181 points, as I predicted. I saw great value in Zalgiris winning away against Bamberg, but my main tip was under 154 points, which unfortunately was not right as we saw a very offensive match with 86:91 final score.
This new round will be bringing many more duels very important to the final standings. Considering there are only 7 rounds left until the playoffs, the stakes could hardly get any higher. It’s easy to see that this competition format is absolutely the best as it has been driving some spectacular play in recent rounds and the best is yet to come. This week, five matches will be played on Thursday with three left for Friday.
I will start my Euroleague tips with Thursday when the most interesting match will certainly be the one in Kaunas, where Zalgiris will be hosting the on form Fenerbache. Zvezda and Bamberg will be battling it out in Belgrade while Baskonia will not be able to afford a loss against Milan. Here is my extensive analysis of the two most interesting matches complete with Euroleague tips.
Zalgiris Kaunas vs Fenerbahce Istanbul Euroleague tips and analysis
What a match for Zalgiris. Fenerbache are the third favourites of the competition, are playing on great form (five wins in last six matches, including the one against Olympiacos) and are entering the match as favourites. Nevertheless, Zalgiris are also playing on great form and their win agains Bamberg was their fourth in five matches giving them realistic hopes against the Turkish side.
The biggest challenge for Saras Jasikevicius’ side will be repeating their impressive offensive play from last week. The Lithuanian team scored 91 points in that one, which was crucial for their big triumph. Still, Fenerbache, led by Zeljko Obradovic, have shown the third best defensive performance of the season (just over 75 points per match). Their defense is exactly what brought them the triumph when first they met Zalgiris earlier this season. Fener beat the Lithuanians with an impressive 82:68 score. Jan Vesely and Ekpe Udoh led Obradovic’s squad with 14 points each while Leo Westermann was best for Zalgiris with 15.
Another important part of the Zalgiris squad, Robertas Javtoks, missed the Bamberg duel due to a foot injury which will likely also see him miss the Fenerbache match. This means the entire burden of the game will fall on the team’s best player Paulius Jankunas who has managed a double double in his last 13 games. Fener on the other hand will not be having any issues with the squad, will be playing with a very deep roster and are easily the favourites in this one.
My Euroleague tips for this game:
Even though the hosts desperately need the win, I believe that the quality of the Turkish side will be decisive and the 1.49 that the bookies are offering on their win (including extra time) should still contain enough value.
Crvena Zvezda MTS Belgrade vs Brose Bamberg Euroleague tips and analysis
Zvezda has been playing on solid form and are certainly favourites on their home turf against Brose Bamberg. The Germans have nearly lost all hope of making the quarters after losing to Zalgiris where they allowed themselves to concede 91 points. Zvezda, on the other hand, demolished Galatasaray and are now sitting on a great opportunity to eliminate Brose from the playoff race. A win would leave Zvezda ahead of Darusaffaka in ninth and we have no doubt that the Red and Whites, with the support of their supporters, will make easy work of the Germans.
Zvezda celebrated a victory in the first duel of the two teams, when a single point was decisive. Charles Jenkins scored the final points in the final seconds of the match and brought his team the minimal 78:79 win to the delight of Dejan Radonjic. Bamberg’s best player, Darius Miller missed the final shot of that game with less than a second left. Milko Bjelica led Zvezda with 18 points in the match, while the Germans will also need to pay special attention to Kuzmic.
The Serbian representatives in the Euroleague have been playing a great season and quite a few of the major contenders for the league have fallen in Belgrade. All things are easily in favour of Zvezda and we truly believe that the hosts’ win should not be under a question mark.
My Euroleague tips for this match
I’ll be brave enough to tip a 6 point win for Zvezda at 1.90 while those who are looking for a safer bet can make easy money with 1.40on the hosts win.
