This Wednesday and Thursday we will have a chance to watch the matches of the 27th round of the most prestigious European basketball league. Only four round are left until the Euroleague season is done and we can already tell which eight teams are most likely to make it to the playoffs. Still, nothing is yet decided as several teams who are currently under the line such as Barcelona, Darussafaka and Zalgiris could still make it, but their fans are not very likely to be celebrating in several weeks time. As usual, I’ve taken a look at this week’s schedule and brought you my Euroleague tips, previews and analysis for the most interesting matches.
Several interesting matches were played last week which helped clear the picture of which teams are likely to be travelling to Istanbul for the final tournament. This Wednesday brings us matches between some of the finest clubs on the old continent and we believe we are in for some spectacles.
Another El Classico is in the cards on Wednesday evening and unlike some other recent matches between Real and Barcelona, this one will be crucial for Blaugrana. Should they lose, Barca will say goodbye to any chances of making the final tournament, to great dissapointment of their fans and a great surprise to all basketball fans. The second game we will be looking into is the one in Moscow where CSKA will be hosting this season’s surpsire Darussafaka.
Euroleague Tips and Analysis: Real Madrid vs Barcelona
Barcelona has been a big disappointment for their fans as they have continually managed to lose matches in which they were big favourites. With 10 wins and 16 defeats, Barcelona are all but done in this Euroleague season. They have lost three of their last five, ruining almost any chances of making the playoffs and by losing to Darussafaka, CSKA at home and Galatasaray away, they have helped the critics who have been claiming that Barcelona’s time as one of Europe’s great basketball teams is behind them.
Should Blaugrana lose the match in Madrid, their chances of making the final tournament would be completely gone, but Barcelona has proved in the past that they are not a team to be forgotten about at any time. Even though they lost to Darussafaka by 9 last week, the players and the fans still believe in a victory in El Classiso and a place in the final eight.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, have secured a place in Instanbul some time ago and they will need to be careful in the coming weeks if they are to maintain first position as CSKA is right on their tail. Real has not been on top form in recent weeks as they lost two of their last three games. By losing to Panathinaikos and Galatasaray, Real have endangered their plan on making the playoffs as the number one team. Real beat Barca just recently when Sergio Lull was the hero and they will need another great game from him if they are to repeat the same result.
If I take everything into considerations, I find it hard to believe that Barcelona on this kind of form can really do much against Real Madrid who will be looking for a victory to break their bad streak. Real will be playing on home turf and we believe a reasonably high victory is in the cards. With this in mind, the Real Madrid to win by 7.5 or more at 1.64 seems as a reasonably high value bet.
Euroleague Tips and Analysis: CSKA Moskva vs Darussafaka Dogus
The second game we believe will be interesting to watch on Wednesday evening is the one between CSKA and the Turkish sensation Darussafaka Dogus. With 13 wins and 13 defeats, the Turks are still in with a chance at final eight. To keep the dream alive, Darussafaka would need to defeat the title defenders CSKA in Moscow. Darussafaka beat Barcelona last week which likely put the final nail in their coffin and gave themselves a chance at the final tournament in Istanbul.
CSKA Moscow on the other hand have had fantastic results until last week when they suprisingly lost to Baskonia which cost them the number one spot for the time being. There are still chances of making the pole position for the Russians, but this depends on what Real Madrid does in their remaining games.
If nothing crazy happens, this match should not be a big problem for CSKA but Darussafaka will have to play for a win which means they will play offensively. Despite this, I believe that CSKA will take adventage of Darussafaka trying to attack and simply crush them with quality. The CSKA to win by 11.5 or more at 1.88 is our bet for this one.
