The Copa Del Rey continues this week in Spain with 16 teams left vying for the cup. With some of the bigger teams putting out weakened sides for the cup, there are chances to pick up good value football bets. Here’s our pick of the bunch.
Villarreal v Real Sociedad tips and analysis
Villarreal take on Real Sociedad in one of the most anticipated games in this round of the Copa Del Rey. Real Sociedad won the first leg 3-1 in San Sebastian with goals from Willian Jose, Carlos Vela and Oyarzabal. Goals will again be the order of the day if Villarreal are to turn around the deficit.
The Yellow Submarine’s recent form at El Madrigal suggests that they will be tough to beat. They have won three of their last five games, and were unfortunate that a last minute goal from Lionel Messi denied them a famous victory over Barcelona last weekend. However, they have only kept one clean sheet in their last six games in all competitions.
Sociedad go into the game having been soundly beaten by Sevilla 4-0 at home last weekend. However that was their first defeat in five games – and their record away from home is equally impressive. La Real have only lost one game away from home in their last five in all competitions – a 5-1 thrashing by Deportivo La Coruna – scoring 11 goals in that timeframe.
Barcelona v Athletic Bilbao tips and analysis
Barcelona lost more ground in their hunt for the Primera Division title having drawn 1-1 with Villarreal at the weekend, putting them five points behind Real Madrid in the table. They’re behind in this tie too, having lost 2-1 away last week and Luis Enrique knows nothing other than a win will do in this game.
Their home record does stand up to scrutiny however, with 16 goals coming from their last four games at Camp Nou alone, with only two conceded.
Athletic couldn’t build on their win against Barcelona, drawing with Alaves at the weekend. They’ve only won one in nine games away from home in all competitions, scoring five and conceded 11 in that time frame. The 0-0 draw with Alaves was only their second clean sheet away from San Mames.
