The football world was rocked on Tuesday when a plane carrying members of the Chapecoense squad crashed in Medellin, Colombia killing 76 people. The team had flown to Colombia from Sao Paulo in Brazil via Bolivia ahead of their Copa Sudamericana final match with Atletico Nacional.
The plane crashed on approach to Medellin after the pilot reported an electrical fault. All but five of the 81 people on board are reported dead by Colombian Police. Three of the survivors are reported to be Chapecoense players – defender Alan Ruschel, along with goalkeepers Jackson Follman and Marcos Danilo.
Squad members left behind in Chapeco were pictured devastated by the news.
Chapecoense had made club history just last week by qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana final for the first time. A 0-0 draw with San Lorenzo was enough to see the Campeanato Catarinense champions through to the two-legged final.
CONMEBOL have confirmed that the Copa Sudamericana final along with “all other activities” have been suspended.

The Verdão were one of eight teams from Brazil to qualify for CONMEBOL’s equivalent of the Europa League in what was just their third season in the Brazilian top flight in nearly 40 years. They had already beaten Independiente of Argentina on penalties and Junior of Colombia on their way to their first continental final.
The thoughts of everyone at ProTipster are with those who have been affected by the tragedy.
