The final two first leg matches in the Champions League round of 16 take place on Wednesday. Porto host Juventus while struggling Premier League champions Leicester City travel to Sevilla. Who are the Champions League tips for progress and who are likely to struggle? Read our guide and find out.
Porto v Juventus Champions League tips and analysis
This has the potential to be the match of the round with both teams in outstanding form. Porto have won their last six in all competitions while Serie A leaders Juventus have won their last seven. Both teams know they face tough competition if they are to progress to the later stages of the Champions League.
Porto have finally got over their injury worries and manager Nuno Espirito Santo has a full squad to work with. Juve on the other hand have injuries to defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli meaning that Mehdi Benatia will probably partner Leonardo Bonucci in the heart of the Bianconeri defence.
Set pieces could be key in this game. Juve have struggled to defend corners of late without Chiellini while Porto keeper Iker Casillas isn’t always reliable on corners himself. Gonazalo Higuain is in the form of his life for Juventus but the question will be how much will either team risk in this big game?
Sevilla v Leicester City
This is a match of teams with contrasting fortunes. Sevilla are third in the table in Spain having won four of their last six including a 2-1 win over leaders Real Madrid. In contrast, Leicester City have lost four of their last five in all competitions including a defeat to third tier Millwall in the FA Cup at the weekend.
With Leicester effectively having nothing to play for bar a relegation scrap, it might be that they raise their game for this. However, they will potentially have to do so without Islam Slimani (groin) and Leonardo Ulloa (thigh). Young forward Demarai Gray may be given the role up front alongside Jamie Vardy if both miss out.
Leicester’s confidence looks shot of late and if Sevilla score early on it could be a rout. The Foxes will need to be tight in defence – the key for them really is how much new signing Wilfred Ndidi can offer protection to their centre-backs in the same way N’Golo Kante did last season.
