It’s another big week of Champions League football this week with the second half of the round of 16 fixtures. Tuesday night features two intriguing clashes. Bayer Leverkusen v Atletico Madrid Champions League tips and analysis
While Bayer were unbeaten in their Champions League group, they only actually won two of their games. One of those victories came against a Monaco side who had already wrapped up the group and were resting on their laurels. These wins coupled with draws at home with Tottenham Hotspur and CSKA Moscow their Champions League form less impressive than it sounds.
In the Bundesliga, Bayer are in a lowly eighth position but they have won three of their five games since the return from the winter break. Their domestic home form has not been great, with Bayer having taken only 17 from 33 points available from home games.
Atletico on the other hand won five straight games in their group including an impressive home victory over Bayern Munich. They conceded only two goals in their six group games, winning tight games away to Rostov and PSV. Atletico lie 4th in La Liga, having won their last three games and they have only lost three of their 12 league games away from the Spanish capital.
Based on this, it’s understandable why Atleti are the Champions League tips to win with the bookies.
Manchester City v Monaco Champions League tIps and analysis
It’s been a strange season in some ways for Pep Guardiola. Despite Manchester City lying second he’s had to face tough questions about his selections and results. This fixture is another tough one for the Citizens – and anyone who saw the 0-0 draw with Huddersfield at the weekend might suggest they will really struggle against Monaco.
However, they’ve lost just one league game at home this season and they’ve won their last four games in the league in succession. They have shown some fragility at the back with Romelu Lukaku and Everton exposing that to spectacular effect in a 4-0 win – however one goal conceded in five games since might suggest that was a blip.
Monaco stuttered to a surprising draw with Bastia at the weekend but they have retained their lead at the top of Ligue 1. Goals have been a real focal point – they’ve scored a whopping 76 in 26 league games this season so far with 11 coming in their last four.
Monaco’s away record is excellent domestically; only two defeats in 13 games and a whopping 30 away goals prove this. Falcao may have been a flop in England with Manchester United and Chelsea but the Colombian has scored 19 in 25 appearances for the Principality. With this in mind it’s difficult to agree with the bookies assessment of Manchester City as favourites and the double chance market looks like value Champions League tips.
