RB Leipzig go into the Bundesliga this weekend hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the season to lowly Ingolstadt. That match is just one of the talking points in the penultimate matchweek before the German winter break in a big weekend for sports betting.
Hoffenheim v Borussia Dortmund Tips and Analysis
Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund match up in the first game of the weekend on Friday night with the home side boasting one of the two remaining unbeaten records in the big European leagues along with Real Madrid. It’s a far cry from last season when Hoffenheim were fighting relegation, managing to avoid the relegation playoffs by just a single point.
Under Julian Nagelsmann, Dortmund have become hard to beat. They’ve had some impressive results, drawing 1-1 with Bayern in Munich and beating Leverkusen 3-0 at the BayArena. However, they’ve also become draw specialists, picking up eight draws in 14 games this season including four in their last five games.
Dortmund are somewhat more inconsistent. They’ve beaten Bayern Munich 1-0 at home only to lose to Eintracht Frankfurt the following week. They then stuffed Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-1 at home but squeaked a 1-1 draw with Koln thanks to a last minute Marco Reus equaliser.
Away form is the killer for Dortmund. In seven games away from the Westfalenstadion they’ve only won twice, and they’re without a win in their last two. They’ve never gone three away games without a win under Thomas Tuchel.
Both sides have fairly fit squads; only Turkish midfielder Kerem Demirbay is a recent injury for Hoffenheim while Dortmund welcome Mario Gotze back to their fold.
Despite their poor away fom, Dortmund are heavy favourites for this game at 1.72 with the bookies sure that Tuchel will get his side to bounce back.
RB Leipzig v Hertha Berlin Tips and Analysis
Leipzig finally lost their unbeaten record last gameweek, going down 1-0 to lowly Ingolstadt in Bavaria. It snapped a streak of eight consecutive wins and meant they lost their position as league leaders to Bayern Munich – albeit solely on goal difference. They face third placed Hertha Berlin in the big game of the weekend looking to maintain the pressure on Bayern and further open the gap on the chasing pack.
Last week was the first game this season that Leipzig have failed to score in. Their record at home is dominant – an average of 2.00 goals per game scored which are fairly evenly spread across all the games. They’ve been strong defensively too, only conceding 5 goals in six games – although only one of those has bene a clean sheet.
Hertha’s defeat at home to Werder Bremen snapped their four game unbeaten streak which had taken them to almost within touching distance of the top two. Their away record hasn’t been great though – only two wins in seven games yielding nine points from a possible 21.
Leipzig will be missing Idrissa Toure due to suspension while Lukas Klostermann and Kyriakos Papadopolous are injured while Hertha will be without Ondrej Duda, Sebastian Langkamp and John Brooks.
On the face of it Hertha will need to massively step up their away form to beat RB Leipzig but the question will be how much did last week’s defeat hurt the Bundesliga surprise package.
Darmstadt 98 v Bayern Munich Tips and Analysis
Bottom club Darmstadt face a tough home match against Bayern Munich this weekend. Die Lillen have lost six games on the spin and have only won two of their 14 games this season. In that horrendous sequence they’ve only scored 3 goals, failing to score in four games while they’ve conceded 12.
Both of Darmstadt’s wins have come at Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion but they have failed to score in the last three games on home soil. Under interim coach Ramon Berndroth they have improved on their previous matches but they face a tough period of matches this winter which could seal their fate.
Bayern on the other hand are on a roll. Three wins on the spin culminating in a 5-0 tanking of Wolfsburg has seen the perennial favourites move to the top of the Bundesliga on goal difference. They’ve scored 10 in their last three outings and will be hungry for more against Darmstadt as they look to retain their lead of the league.
Anis Ben-Hatira has been ruled out for Darmstadt with injury but Berndroth is hopeful that Florian Jungwirth, Leon Guwara and Daniel Heuer Fernandes will feature. Bayern are sweating on the fitness of Thiago Alcantara. Mats Hummels has returned to training after illness.
Augsburg v Borussia Moenchengladbach Tips and Analysis
Thirteenth placed Augsburg come into their match with Borussia Moenchengladbach looking to snap a four game winless streak. It’s been a tough season overall for Die Fuggerstadter, with only three wins in their 14 games only four goals in their last five. They’re only four points in front of the bottom three – and with only one home win their fans are surely hoping for better since parting ways with coach Dirk Schuster this week.
They face a Gladbach side who are only one place and two points ahead of them. Gladbach ended a horrendous streak of eight games without a win by beating Mainz 1-0 at home last gameweek. Their away form is pitiful – one point on their travels in six games, conceding 17 goals.
Augsburg have a bit of an injury crisis on their hands. Interim coach Manuel Baum is missing Caiuby, Alfred Finnbogason and Raul Bobadilla through injury and Dominik Kohr through suspension. Gladbach have lost American winger Fabian Johnson to an Achilles tendon injury but Josip Drmic and Thorgen Hazard could both come into contention.
