The 2019 US Open will be the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. It will be played on outdoor hard courts in New York City. The tournament runs from 26th August to 8th September. Qualifying got underway on August 19 as the lower-ranked players battle it out to reach the lucrative first round proper. The official main draw for both the men's and women's singles tournaments will take place on Thursday, August 22. The total prize fund has increased again for 2019 from $53 million to $57.2m. There are a total of 128 men and 128 women in the singles and there will be 32 seeded players in the Men’s draw and the Women’s draw. Djokovic and Naomi Osaka go into the tournament as defending champions, but with no player retaining their title here since Serena Williams in 2014 and plenty of exciting talents emerging, it's anyone's game.
Favourites of US Open 2019
One of the greatest ever US Open players won the men’s singles in 2018. Novak Djokovic defeated the gifted Argentine Juan Martin del Potro in the final to lift his third title in Flushing Meadows. He is the first favourite this year. He already won two grand slams this year and we believe that he will win here yet again. The odds on Novak Djokovic to win the tournament are 2.40, that is more than we expected and he is a level above everyone at the moment. He has momentum, we all know how strong he is, both mentally and physically. The second favourite is Rafael Nadal (7.00). The odds are here good settled because Rafa is having problems when playing long matches on hard court surfaces. His knees are really suffering and it is really hard to believe that he can stay on his best level and win the tournament while not being 100 percent fit. Roger Federer is a third favourite ( 8.00 ). We believe that after his loss in Wimbledon final, Roger is still trying to recover from that. He played only one match after that final and he lost in straight sets against Rublev. He looked really confused on the court and it is really hard to imagine to see him reaching another final.
US Open 2019 - Dark Horse
Daniil Medvedev is definitely a guy that we are looking forward to watching at this tournament. He has played three finals in a row and in his last final he managed to win against Goffin and get himself a first Master 1000 title. He is serving really well and he is not giving away free points. He is feeling comfortable when playing long rallies, his groundstrokes have a good depth and it is hard to play against such a player. He already won against Novak this month on almost the same surface as here. The odds on him winning the tournament are 15.00, however, we still think that you should go with safer options such as him reaching the semifinals. He has a quality to perform here really well but he played lots of matches this year and here he might need to play five sets so it is hard to imagine him winning the title after so many matches but who knows. Other guys such as Thiem, Zverev, del Potro, Cilic are not worth betting on them because they are too inconsistent or injured.
Betting on US Open
One statistic that stands out is that Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic appeared in seven of the last eight US Open finals, winning three times. He is also #1 on the ATP list again, loves playing on hard surfaces and looks like he fully regained his peak-career swagger, making it difficult to bet against him.
You should also consider betting with some bigger handicap lines on Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal because they usually want to play their first matches as short as possible so that they can have more time to recover.
Betting against Federer and Cilic is also a smart thing because they are usually really good when playing on fast surfaces such as this one, but we believe that they are mentally slowly drifting away and it would not be a big surprise if they are already out within the first three rounds. With that being said, the best and the safest option is to bet on Novak Djokovic to win the championship (2.50). He is looking really sharp at the moment and he is definitely going to give his best to catch Roger Federer in his Grand Slam titles record.
This is a really fast surface, keep that in mind and bet smart!
