The 2019 UEFA Super Cup will be the 44th edition of this one game contest, in which two English teams will meet for the first time. This will also be the 8th overall to feature two teams from the same country. Champions League winners Liverpool and Europa League winners Chelsea will decide a winner in Istanbul, at Vodafone Park. This game will enter history as first in something more – this time French official Stephanie Frappart will become the first woman to referee the final of UEFA men competition.
Teams in a different mood
In the first gameweek of the new season, Liverpool didn't have a tough game. They hosted Norwich, everyone expected an easy win, what later happened. Salah was the man of the match, scoring a goal and adding an assist. The game finished 4-1 in the end, but one bad thing happened – their goalkeeper Alisson Becker got off injured and he is about to miss next few games.
On the other side, Chelsea had a really difficult game at Old Trafford. That was also a debut game for their new coach Frank Lampard, who wasn't able to bring any new players in this transfer window due to a transfer ban. Chelsea had some good moments there, and the result 4-0 doesn't show the real state. After all, the reaction of Chelsea fans say more than enough – they were applauding to their legend, holding his pictures and messages of support.
Actually, if you look a little bit deeper, Chelsea was a better team in all important statistical categories: possession, shots, corners...But they couldn't match Manchester United in goals. They hit the woodwork two times in the first half, and Kurt Zouma played probably the worst half of his whole career. And Man United were punishing them, scoring an incredible 36% of their shots.
Predicted line-ups
Despite this UEFA Super Cup is a game for some trophy, Liverpool won't put the main focus on it. One of their key players Sadio Mane is tired after a long campaign of Senegal in Africa Cup of Nations, so you can expect Origi in the first team again. As previously mentioned, Alisson will skip this game and Adrian will be between the posts. In the midfield, we could see Naby Keita and James Milner as the starters, while the defence shouldn't see any changes.
Chelsea could once again have problems at the back – during the preseason they were conceding a lot of goals against some weaker teams, Davis Luiz went to Arsenal, and their another top defender Rudiger is injured. In comparison with the first game of this season against Man United, we can see N'Golo Kante entering the field instead of Mateo Kovacic. Olivier Giroud could come in over Tammy Abraham, while Chelsea's new potential star Christian Pulisic should be a solution instead of Ross Barkley who underperformed in the first game.
That would be something you can expect, but it is quite probable there will be even more changes because both teams are looking to Premier League games next weekend – when Chelsea will play against Leicester on Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool are about to visit Southampton.
