Spain vs. Germany - Betting tips, predictions, and odds

Spain and Germany will conclude Round 2 action of Group E at the FIFA World Cup when they cross swords at Al Bayt Stadium. Don't forget to get the best Spain vs. Germany betting tips and predictions.

H2H, form, and stats

The two European giants Spain and Germany have met quite often in big tournaments. In total, they have played 15 H2Hs since 1966 and the World Cup in England, and four of those 15 duels came at World Cups. Germany won six, Spain recorded five victories, and four games ended as draws. The most recent H2H was at the UEFA Nations League in 2020 when Spain destroyed Germany 6-0.

Spain showed why they are always among the favorites to win the World Cup with an outstanding performance in a massive 7-0 win over Costa Rica in Round 1. From the very start, La Furia Roja was precisely that - furious. Dani Olmo opened the scoring in the 11th minute, while Marco Asensio and Ferran Torres also found the back of the net to set a 3-0 result at halftime. Torres scored his second goal early in the second half before Gavi, Carlos Soler, and Alvaro Morata bagged a goal apiece in the final 15 minutes. Spain had just seven shots on target, all of which went past behind experienced Keylor Navas. On the other end, the Spaniards didn't let a single attempt at their goal. Spain suffered just two defeats in the last 17 games (W12, D3) and this was their third consecutive win.

Germany lost its first game in Qatar as Japan stunned them in a 2-1 win. Die Mannschaft played well in the first half and had a 1-0 lead thanks to Ilkay Gundogan’s goal from the penalty. Germany completely controlled the tilt, allowing just 19% of possession to Japan and only one shot at the goal (off target). However, that all changed in the final 15 minutes of the game following numerous missed chances to put the game to bed with the second goal. Serge Gnabry, Gundogan, and Jonas Hofmann all had excellent opportunities to make it 2-0, and after they all missed, the punishment arrived on the other end. Japan scored two in the space of eight minutes to cause a big upset. Germany continued with poor form; they won only two of the previous nine matches (D5, L2).

Injuries and squad news

Spain’s head coach Luis Enrique has no injury concerns and no reasons to change his starting XI that impressed against Costa Rica. One possible change could be in the attack, where Alvaro Morata could start for Asensio if Enrique opts to open the game with a classic striker, which wasn't always the case.

Germany’s head coach Hansi Flick perhaps doesn't have any injured players, but he surely has a massive headache after that loss to Japan. It’s clear that he has to change something, so we could expect to see some fresh faces in the starting lineup. Jamal Musiala didn't play well, and the teenager could start on the bench in this one, while the back four is not functioning at the level we got used to seeing from the Germans. David Raum, Nico Schlotterbeck, Antonio Rudiger, and Niklas Sule were off the sync in the second half, and if Flick sticks with them in defense, it’s going to be tricky.

Spain vs. Germany Betting predictions and odds

The Spain vs. Germany odds changed a bit after the Round 1 matches. Spain is still a slight favorite at 2.32; a draw is at 3.54, while if you think the Germans will respond to a loss against japan with a win here, you can back them at 2.94. The bookmakers expect goals here, so they offered 1.69 odds on Over 2.5 goals, while Under 2.5 goals is at 2.16.

Our best tip for Spain vs. Germany game

Germany conceded at least a goal in eight of the previous nine matches, while they conceded 2+ in three of the last five. We certainly don't expect Spain to score six as they did in 2020 or seven as they scored against Costa Rica, but considering Germany’s defense and the fact that they can’t defend against transition and speedy opponents, we’re going with La Furia Roja to score at least two goals. Germany could suffer elimination from the World Cup after this match, and it wouldn't be surprising, at least for us - this isn't the old Germany we remember.
