Leicester City vs Manchester United
Second host third in the league in the first game of the day as the feast of festive football begins. Leicester come into this one following a very impressive performance against Tottenham as they dominated their opponents in a 2-0 win. Victory saw them leapfrog Jose Mourinho’s side into second, with Spurs slipping down to sixth. For the Foxes, this is their most impressive start since their famous title winning season back in 2016. However, while they have really impressed so far, questions remain over whether they can match the level of Liverpool across the season.
For Manchester United, this season has rocked from strong to poor and back again. A dismal Champions League campaign saw the side relegated to the Europa League after the group-stage, but they have really impressed in the league of late. Wins over Leeds and Sheffield United followed a draw with Manchester City, while an away win over West Ham preceded this stalemate. While United have not been massively convincing this season, it is very impressive that they have managed to claim third-place in the league with a game in hand.
In this one, Leicester seem like the ideal choice at first glance. A 2-0 win over Tottenham and a home tie means they should have the advantage, but it should be noted that the Foxes have lost their last two home Premier League games to Fulham and Everton. Clearly, Leicester have been stronger on the road of late, and we think that United’s confidence boosting 6-2 hammering of Leeds along with their 2-0 win over Everton in midweek will see them pick up another victory and reduce the difference between themselves and Liverpool at the top to just two points. Of course, this should be taken with a pinch of salt. United have been masters of being in good positions and letting the momentum slip over the past few years, and Leicester are a side that will punish mistakes.

Arsenal vs Chelsea
This is a massive game for both these sides, although it should be noted that the teams need the points for very different reasons. Arsenal have been enduring one of the worst starts in their history, with just 14 points from a possible 42 meaning they are 17 short of Liverpool at the top and, more worrying, just four clear of Fulham in 18th. The idea that the Gunners would be embroiled in a relegation battle right now would have been inconceivable at the start of the season, but that is where fans of the London side find themselves right now.
Chelsea on the other hand have looked good, although they have been inconsistent at times. Seven wins and four draws have brought 25 points and, despite many writing Frank Lampard’s side off with regard to a title win, they are only six short of the Reds at the top. Successive losses to Everton and Wolves had dented their hopes of challenging Liverpool, but their 3-0 defeat of West Ham saw them get back to winning ways in the London derby.
In this one though, we are not overly confident backing either side to win. Arsenal have looked awful of late, but a London derby can often prove to be the catalyst for better performances. For Chelsea, there have been some inconsistencies against the better sides, with their three losses coming against Liverpool, Everton and Wolves. Lampard’s men will not fear Arsenal, but they will be fully aware of the fact that the Gunners are a wounded beast, desperately looking for anything to sink their teeth into.
Therefore, instead of backing a winner, we believe you should wager on the anytime scorer market, and we think this one is perfectly poised to see Olivier Giroud score. The Frenchman spent a goal-filled spell with Arsenal, and it would seem incredibly harsh for him to return to pile even more pressure on his old team. However, this is exactly the way the Premier League works.
