Netherlands vs Austria
Netherlands vs Austria takes place in Amsterdam on June 17 in the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam in Group C. Both teams won their opening fixture and will go into this game knowing victory will ensure their progress into the knockout stages of Euro2020. Read on for analysis, match predictions and betting tips.
Form
When the Netherlands went 2-0 up against Ukraine it looked like they were going to cruise to victory. A spirited fightback from the away side saw Ukraine come back to 2-2 and it was only thanks to a late goal from defender Denzel Dumfries that the Netherlands emerged from the match with all three points. With only three clean sheets in their last ten games - and one of those was against Gibraltar - the Dutch will know that they need to defend better.
Austria were held up by a plucky North Macedonian side but two late goals from Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautovic ensured that the Austrians came out victors. Stefan Lainer’s goal was the first Austria scored for four games going back to March, and their three goals in that game more than doubled their tally from their previous two appearances.
Injuries
Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt missed the opening game due to injury, and the question is if he will return for this fixture. In a defence already shorn of the long term injured Virgil van Dijk, there are always going to be worries about conceding goals and head coach Frank de Boer will surely be anxious about de Ligt’s continued absence.
Crvena Zvezda defender Aleksandar Dragovic was forced off in the opening Austria game, and there will be question marks over his return to the team for this one. Austria coach Franco Foda brought on Freiburg centre-back Philipp Lienhart in Dragovic’s place and he could retain his place for this game. Forwards Arnautovic and Gregoritsch both did well off the bench and will be pushing for inclusion in the team
Match Prediction
As one would expect, the Netherlands are huge favourites for this game with the bookies and there seems like absolutely no value in backing them to win this one. The goals markets are also pointing to a goal fest with BTTS and over 2.5 goals both under 2.00 with the bookies. The place to look for betting tips in this one might be the handicap market; Netherlands -1 is 2.50 which is big but maybe worth it for the brave punter.
