Mexico and Poland have faced on four occasions. Their first-ever H2H meeting was at the World Cup in 1978 when Poland won 3-1. They played a pair of friendlies in 2005 and 2011, both of which finished 1-1, while Mexico won the most recent H2H in 2017 when Raul Jimenez scored the game’s only goal in Gdańsk.

Mexico’s head coach Gerardo Martino incurred the wrath of the fans after the decision to omit Jesús Manuel Corona, who has 71 caps and ten goals for the national side. Martino, on the other hand, decided to call injured forward Raúl Jiménez, who is struggling with a groin injury and is not expected to return in time for at least the first two games in the group.
Jiménez is the top scorer of this generation, but with him sidelined, the Mexicans will rely on the captain and most-capped player Andrés Guardado, Héctor Herrera, and Edson Álvarez to boss the midfield. Hirving Lozano will lead the line, while on defense, Héctor Moreno and talismanic goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa can make the difference.
Poland’s head coach Czesław Michniewicz left midfielders Karol Linetty and Mateusz Klich at home, while striker Adam Buksa couldn't travel to Qatar due to an injury.
