Germany vs Hungary
Germany vs Hungary takes place on June 23 in Munich in the final round of matches of Group F. Following their win against Portugal on Saturday, Germany know another win here will guarantee them a place in the knockout stages. Hungary also know that they have it all to play for; a point against France in their last game means an unlikely win here will see them into the round of 16. Read on for more analysis, match predictions and betting tips.
Form
It’s taken Germany a little while to get going but against Portugal they showed why they should always be feared in knockout tournaments. Left-back Robin Gosens took the plaudits in a game where he scored one and made another and the Atalanta player received a standing ovation when he was replaced just after the hour mark. In fact, all four goals in the game came from balls played in from Gosens and Bayern Munich right-back Joshua Kimmich and Hungary will need to be very wary of those players.
While it's unlikely Hungary will go any further in this tournament, the Magyar fans will have the memory of the moment that they took the lead against the reigning World Cup holders France. The noise from inside the Puskas Arena when Fehervar right-back Atilla Fiola scored was immense; however Hungary now leave their home stadium behind to play this game in Germany. 17 years ago a Sandor Torghelle double led Hungary to a famous 2-0 friendly win in Kaiserslautern. Can the Magyars do it again?
Injuries
Germany boss Joachim Low has no injuries to contend with currently in the Germany squad, although Chelsea defender Toni Rudiger is continuing to wear a mask when playing due to a facial injury he picked up on club duty. It’s likely that Low will name the same eleven who have played in the first two games which means no place for Chelsea striker Timo Werner nor Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.
Hungary coach Marco Rossi only made one change for the France game, preferring Fehervar defender Loic Nego to Ferencvaros right-back Gergo Lovrencsics and it may be that Rossi goes with that decision again. Osijek attacking midfielder Laszlo Kleinheiser was man of the match against France and Hungary fans will be hopeful that he can return a similar performance in this game.
Match Predictions
Germany are heavy favourites for this game, with few bookies offering more than 1.20 against them winning this game while Hungary are as far out as 19.00 with one bookmaker. This is unsurprising; Germany are a very strong team who have always performed well in major finals and they have home advantage as well. Over 3.5 goals is available at 2.00 while in the handicap markets Germany -2 is at 2.25. It seems almost certain that Germany will win - the question for punters searching for betting tips is by how many.
