We updated our betting preview just before the knock out stage and analyzed all quarter finals.
Group stage of the 2019 Copa America is over and on June 27th quarter-finals will start. So far we haven’t seen any major upsets at the tournament. As we predicted Bolivia and Qatar are going home after the first round, while Japan came to Brazil with young squad so their elimination is not major surprise either. Beside the worst South American team (Bolivia) and two Asian guests (Qatar and Japan), Ecuadorian are also on their way back home after they finished at the bottom of Group C with a single point from three games.
Favorites After Group Stage
So, eight teams are still in contention for the title, but bookmakers have adjusted their odds a little bit after three group stage matches by each of national teams. Brazilians are still seen as the top favorites @2.10, but Argentina have slipped to third position @6.50 after poor performances against Colombia, Paraguay and Qatar. At the moment Uruguayans are considered as the second favorites @5.50, while bookmakers don’t have any faith in Venezuela (@51.00) and Paraguay (@101.00).
BRAZIL – PARAGUAY
Neymar’s injury was huge blow for the hosts who really struggled in two opening games. Against weak Bolivia they needed 50 minutes and a penalty to score the first goal. Eventually they won 3-0, but impression was not the best. Things were even worse against Venezuela, as Brazilians drew in a goalless match. They did find way to the net twice, but both times they were denied by VAR. So, why they are considered as the top contenders? Mostly because of their third match when they destroyed Peru 5-0 in Sao Paulo.
Brazilians now await Paraguay, probably the worst of those eight sides in the quarter-final. They managed to take point against Argentina, but also blew two goal lead against Qatar. They did not improve the image in the third match when they managed to lose against weakened Colombia.
Paraguayans somehow managed to sneak in to the quarterfinals, but this is the end for them!
Brazilians are yet to concede the first goal in the tournament, and we don’t think Paraguayans can score against them.
We expect Brazil beating Paraguay convincingly, so maybe it wouldn’t be a bad choice to try and guess some of the scorers. Our choice? We would go with Coutinho who scored twice against Bolivia. He is penalty taker for Brazil and that’s fact to keep in mind when picking a goalscorer.

VENEZUELA – ARGENTINA
Bookmakers consider Argentina as heavy favorite, but we don’t think this will be a one sided affair. Yes, on the paper, Argentina led by Lionel Messi seems much stronger, but La Albiceleste is one of disappointments of the tournament. Argentina lost to Colombia, took a point against Paraguay and then they barely managed to beat Qatar. They definitely have quality, but Lionel Scaloni’s side is playing like a group of amateurs, not like one of the top contenders for the Copa America.
Venezuela is the only country in South America that never played at the World Cup, but despite all the problems in their country Venezuelan football is getting better and better. Venezuelans managed to keep a clean sheet against Peru and Brazil. Then they beat Bolivia with relative ease after they went one down from the penalty spot.
Venezuelans know how to defend and we do not expect them to take attacking approach against Argentina. On the other hand Argentinians have struggled throughout this tournament, so once again we can expect hard fought match that will go into under.
Venezuela +1 @1.90 has huge value.
Here are the Venezuela - Argentina betting tips from ProTipster users.
COLOMBIA – CHILE
Colombians were never considered as top contenders at the Copa America, but they are the only team at the tournament with maximum nine points from three matches. Immediately at the opening they beat Argentina and then with some troubles they took three points against Qatar. In their third match they didn’t play with the best 11, but still managed to beat Paraguay.
Colombians were excellent, but for their excellency they have been rewarded with a tie against two time defending champions, Chile.
Chile came to Brazil with very experienced squad and in our preview we wrote that they can be dark horses. Yes, they did finished second behind Uruguay with one loss (to Uruguayans), but this loss came in very equal match after they already had spot in the quarterfinals.
In our opinion this quarterfinal is the most difficult to predict. This is 50-50 match and we do not understand why Colombians are made such favorites.
Chileans know how to play in knock out stage and definitely there is value in backing them to go through.
Chile to qualify @2.25 has value, as in our opinion this bet shouldn’t be over 1.95.

URUGUAY – PERU
Uruguayans are always considered as main contenders for Copa America as they won this competition record 15 times (Argentina has 14 titles, while Brazil has just 8). Uruguayans have excellent squad with stars like Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez, Jose Gimenez, Diego Godin and Rodrigo Betancourt, and they went through the group with ease. They did slip up against Japan when they took just one point, but against Ecuador and Chile they won six points. Enough for the top spot.
What to say about Peruvians? After they qualified for the World Cup in Russia they came to Brazil with lot of optimism. They struggled against Venezuela, beat weak Bolivia and then were destroyed by the hosts.
Peruvians are capable of upsetting Uruguay, but we just don’t see this happening.
Uruguay to win @1.7-1.8 is definitely worth taking as we think Uruguayans should be even heavier favorites, around 1.60 or even 1.55.

Brazil are main favorites to win the Copa America, but it won't be an easy job for them, as Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile also come with high expectations to this tournament. Find out more about the oldest international continental competition in ProTipster's preview…
CONMEBOL Copa America | Introduction
CONMEBOL Copa America is a men’s international football tournament contested between national teams from CONMEBOL. It is the oldest international continental competition. The competition determines the continental champion of South America. As CONMEBOL has only 10 members since 1990s, teams from North America and Asia have also been invited to participate.
The 2019 Copa America will be the 46th edition of the Copa America. Uruguay have won record 15 titles, followed by Argentina with 14 and Brazil with 8. No other team have won more than two titles, while Venezuela and Ecuador are only South American team that have never won the Copa America. Chile is two-time defending champions, having won the 2015 and 2016 editions of the tournament.
The 2019 Copa America will be hosted by Brazil. The tournament will be contested by 12 teams, ten from South America with two guest teams being Qatar and Japan from AFC.
The tournament will be hosted by five cities (Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre) and six stadiums (two in Sao Paulo). The opening match will be held at the Estadio do Morumbi in Sao Paulo, the semi finals will be held at the Arena do Gremio in Porto Alegre and Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, and the final will be held at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
Twelve teams will be divided in three groups, with the winners and runners-up of each group and two best third-placed teams among all groups advance to the quarter-finals.

Outright Betting Favorites for Copa America 2019
It is no surprise that Brazil are considered as main favorites to lift the trophy at 2,10. Brazil will have the home field advantage and at the moment they’re the best South American side on FIFA ranking (they hold 3rd place). Beside that, under Tite, Brazil have really be excellent during last two years. The hosts will be led by their stars like Neymar, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Casemiro and others, but Tite have also made a couple of surprising additions (Allan, Ede Militao, David Neres…). Brazil will play in Group A alongside Bolivia, Venezuela and Peru, so they shouldn’t have any problems of qualifying easily for the quarter-finals.
Argentina are considered as the second favorite of the tournament at 5,50. The Argentines are led by the world’s best player Leo Messi, although we have to mention that they haven’t win anything with him so far. After a disappointing World Cup Argentina will try to do something in Brazil. When you have players like Messi, Aguero, Dybala, Di Maria and De Celso it is no surprise that you’re considered as one of the favorites, but Argentina have struggled to go to the end at big tournaments in recent years. La Albiceleste will play in Group B with Colombia, Paraguay and Qatar, so their place in quarter-final should not be questioned.
Finally, Uruguay are considered as the third favorites to win the Copa America at 8,00. Uruguay have a very good side, but they’re coming to Brazil without Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, so that could be a huge blow for them. They will play in very tough Group C with Japan, Chile and Ecuador, so their way to the quarter-finals will not be a walk in the park.
Weakest Sides of Copa America 2019
Bolivia and Qatar are probably the weakest sides in this tournament. Bolivia are traditionally the worst side in South America and they’re capable of some upsets only when they play high in Andean mountains. Here in Brazil they will probably go home after the group stage. Qatar are not considered a powerhouse even in AFC. They were invited to the Copa America as the hosts of the next World Cup, but realistically they are no match for teams at this tournament.
Betting against these teams will be logical when you are posting your betting tips for Copa America at ProTipster.
Honestly, I think Brazil will win the title as they’re hosts and probably have the best squad at the tournament. If I would have to pick a dark horse, then I would go with Chile at 11,00. Chileans have won last two Copa Americas, so we can’t consider them total underdogs. They have missed the World Cup in Russia, but they have more than decent squad led by experienced veterans like Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal, Eduardo Vargas and Gary Medel. If they go through very difficult Group C they could be very dangerous in the knockout phase, as they know how to play this type of games. Their best players are getting older, but still they’re capable for surprise or two.
Betting on Copa America (TOP 4 Essential Info)
- At first we have to understand that South American teams know each other very well. Unlike UEFA, CONMEBOL have just 10 member federations, and those 10 national teams play against each other continually in the World Cup qualifications and Copa America. In the World Cup qualifications all ten teams are in one group playing each other twice.
- As teams know each other, generally games are very tight, and often are decided by a single goal margin. Exception to this rule are Bolivians who are capable of losing with couple goals, as well as some invited teams like Qatar. On the other hand, Brazil are hosts, so they could be more convincing in the group stage of the tournament.
- Generally some people consider South American football as technical with attractive play. This was maybe true 30-40 years ago, but nowadays most of the matches are real wars, especially when you have teams like Uruguay or Chile. Therefore, lot of unders should be expected.
- Finally, we should take into account quite long distances between host cities, so some teams could travel quite a bit and that could be a factor too. For example, the distance between the southernmost city of Porto Alegre and northernmost Salvador is more than 3 thousand kilometres.
