Best Value Bets For UEFA Nations League

The UEFA Nations League returns for yet another cluster of enthralling and important matches. Most teams across the competition have already played four games, and this means that the tables are starting to take shape, with advancing onto the next rounds at the forefront of the minds of many, much in the same way as relegation will be for others.
With these pulsating matches to come, we have picked out from UEFA Nations League predictions our best value bets for this round of fixtures.
Germany vs Ukraine
In years gone by, this game would see most backing Germany with a pretty sizeable handicap. However, since their 2014 World Cup triumph, the Germans have not been anywhere near their awesome selves. Instead, they have struggled massively, slipping all the way down to 14th in the FIFA world rankings after a truly torrid time of late. Meanwhile, opponents Ukraine come into this one on the back of a very impressive 1-0 win over Spain that saw them notch their second win in four, and now they have their eyes firmly set on Germany. Admittedly, they did ride their luck against the Spanish, only seeing 28% of the ball, while they scored with their only shot on target in the game. Spain on the other hand had 21 total shots and were unable to make this count. The reverse of this fixture saw a match in which Germany dominated, but their 12 shots on target yielded just two goals, while Ukraine, who seem far more adept at taking their chances, scored with one of their three shots on target.
Most bookmakers currently have Ukraine as outsiders for this one, and rightly so. Germany will be a tough side to get one over at home, but we think that odds like 17/2 for a Ukraine win look very tasty. However, we are feeling a tad more cautious in this one, and instead of backing Ukraine outright, we are plumping for the Draw No Bet market to give our money some added safety. The away side are available here at 13/2 with Paddy Power.

Portugal vs France
What a game the Nations League has thrown up for us on Saturday, with the reigning-European champions hosting the reigning-world champions. Portugal’s battle with France should be a cracking contest, but the question is, who will come out on top? Portugal are currently the favourite to win this one, coming in with best odds of 8/5. France meanwhile are 2’s, which seems rather long for a side that boasts as much talent as they do. Looking at Group 3 of League A does not really give much of a hint as to which direction this will go either. Both sides are locked at the top of the table on 10 points following three wins and a draw from four matches. Indeed, the last time the two met, the game ended in a 0-0 draw, so once again, there is very little to be taken from this.
Instead, we are looking to go and back the old faithful in goal scoring; Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese legend is currently 5/4 with Betfred to net a goal at any point in the match, and while France’s Kylian Mbappe (6/4) is a tasty looking option too, we just cannot look past Ronaldo. If we were to plump for a winner in the game, we would probably back Portugal, but with the two desperate not to let the other gain an advantage, this one may be a very tight game where an uncharacteristic mistake makes the difference.

Wales vs Republic of Ireland
Despite the fact Wales will be without manager Ryan Giggs for the next cluster of games, the Welsh will be full of confidence following three wins in four Nations League games. The 10 points they have accrued means they hold a one-point lead over Finland in second, while they are seven clear of next opponents Republic of Ireland in third. Indeed, with the Republic struggling this term, we feel that Wales have all of the tools to take their opponents apart, especially with Gareth Bale in the squad. The Tottenham forward has looked like a player renewed with Spurs, and while he may not be scoring freely for his club yet, he generally does not struggle to find the back of the net for his country. With this in mind, we are backing the forward to hit the back of the net at any point throughout the game, and he is available at 7/5 with bet365.
