Sevilla have scored 14 goals in the last 4 La Liga mathces.
Barcelona started this season’s campaign with four consecutive league victories. Back in mid September we thought the Catalans are going to defend the title with ease. Four match days later and we have completely different story.
Barcelona are now winless in their last four league games, but fans are worried as during this period they didn’t play against top opposition. Barca managed to take one point against Girona, Athletic and Valencia, while they were defeated in Madrid against Leganes. At the moment the Catalan side sit just one point behind the leaders, but they’re on equal points as third placed Atletico, and just one point ahead of sixth placed Alaves.
The hosts’ defense seems pretty fragile lately and in this match Ernesto Valverde once again have just two center back options, Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet, as Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen are ruled out. Good news should be the return of Sergi Roberto who should replace Nelson Semedo at right back. How fragile is Barca’s defense we can see from the fact that this season they kept just two clean sheets, against Alaves and Valladolid at the start of the campaign.
Barcelona are going through a difficult period, but against Sevilla they have a great recent record. Blaugrana won nine out of their last ten meetings against Sevilla and that includes Copa del Rey Final and Spanish Super Cup victories this season.
Pedro Machin’s style of football is an attacking one, and so far such play brings him more than enough points. After disappointing home defeat against Getafe, Sevilla won four consecutive games, and thanks to sloppy performances by Real and Barcelona, took them over at the top of La Liga.
In those four matches Sevilla have scored incredible 14 goals, so probably Machin will not shy away from his attacking style at Camp Nou. The visitors have been on fire of late with Andre Silva and Wissam Ben Yedder in great form up top.
It is the first time Sevilla have topped La Liga since March 2007. We’re not sure if they can continue with such performances in a long run and if they will be title contenders (probably not), but at the moment they’re one of the most entertaining sides in La Liga.
FC Barcelona and FC Sevilla Betting Odds and Predictions
It's hard to see why Barcelona are such a huge favorites in this match. We're aware of the fact they have terrific H2H against Sevilla, but also they’re winless in last four, they have troubles in their defense, and generally don’t play so good.
On the other hand Sevilla are playing very entertaining football, and they’re deservingly on the top of La Liga. Odds around 1.30 against the home win are simply to low and unrealistic. Asian Handicap line is set at 1.5 goals, so this offers huge value if we take Sevilla +1.5.
